Tons of Fun in Ms. McPhail’s Class

Ms.Mcphail’s Owls have gone to the Eno River canoeing. They’ve watched movies every 2nd Friday. Ms. McPhail’s class does fun projects each month. They have even had a dance party. They also have book buddies and those are loads of fun! I love being in Ms. McPhail’s class. I think she is the best teacher ever!
Brittany, a 4th  grader in Ms.McPhai's class, says “Ms.McPhail is awesome. She has the best class store. I especially like that she buys bracelet kits and flowers for our class store.”
Ciro, a boy in Ms.Mcphail’s class stated that “when I do my homework I get prizes. We do independent reading every day. I love this because I can read any book I’d like.”
There you have it. Ms. McPhail rocks.

Ms. Rumer Teaches 4th Graders How to Cook

In Ms. Rumer’s cooking class 4th graders have been cooking delicious kinds of food. So far they have made apple salad, spaghetti and Hawaiian pizza. They even made corn chowder! This was very tasty.

My favorite day of cooking class was when we were making spaghetti. I got to be the cook. This meant I got to stir the spaghetti sauce until it was done. It was also nice to work with Alfredo, Yanil and Latea. It is so much fun to cook!

The Mystery of the Missing Chicken Nugget

One day after Donnell ordered his lunch in the cafeteria he had to get water.
“Mrs. P,” said Donnell, “Can I please go and get some water?”
“Sure, but hurry, I don’t want you to miss your lunchtime” said Mrs. Patterson.
            “Okay!” said Donnell
It took him two minutes to get water. He was very thirsty. When he came back he noticed something very disturbing.
“Hey! My chicken nugget!” said Donnell. “Who stole my chicken nugget?”
“I don’t know.” Said Leo as chicken nugget crumbs dropped from his mouth.
            “Leo, say ah!” Donnell demanded.
            “Ah!” went Leo.
His tongue was covered in chicken nugget. The mystery was solved. Leo just had to speak for it to be all over.

The Time I Found Out I was Allergic to Shellfish

Just a few years ago I wasn’t allergic to shellfish. That changed one night when we were eating shrimp noodles and crab. When I finished eating my food it was time for me to go to bed.

In the middle of the night I woke up and began to cough and spit up blood. I sent my younger cousin downstairs to tell the grownups. They were scared! My mom drove me down to urgent care. On the way I couldn’t breathe.

The doctors looked at my throat. They told my mother that I had to go to Duke hospital. I rode in the ambulance. The doctors looked down my throat. They said that it looked like something had scraped down my throat. They gave me medicine.

When I left the hospital I was fine. I am so lucky that I can still talk. This is the way I found out I was allergic to shellfish.

Interview with EK Powe Spelling Bee Champion Ned Swansey

O.L. : What were you feeling when you won the bee?

N.S.: I was expecting it because I knew how to spell my last word.

O.L. : Did you feel nervous during the bee?

N.S.: No, I never feel nervous during things like spelling bees because I have confidence in myself and being nervous does not help anything. If you are nervous it is harder to thing straight and much easier to misspeak.

O.L. : How did you feel when your sister got out during the spelling bee?

N.S.: I felt really awful because she knew the list and she said her word too fast. I hate it when people get out and they know the word.

O.L. : Did you feel confident in yourself at the beginning of the spelling bee?

N.S.: I felt good about my chances because I have a lot of experience with spelling bees.

O.L. : Do you have any tips for success?

N.S.: Keep calm. Ask for sentences and definitions. Never rush to spell. If you have no idea how to spell a word be sure to trust your instincts.

The Mystery of the Messed up pizza

I feel that the pizza in the cafeteria is not cooked correctly. It is either overcooked or undercooked. Sometimes they add too much cheese. CUT IT DOWN PEOPLE!

I personally believe that they should switch lunch pizza with the breakfast pizza because I often see more people eating breakfast pizza than the lunch pizza.

When speaking about the pizza problem with an unnamed associate, he stated “I think that when it comes to pizza I prefer a lot of cheese. But I don’t like it when it is over flowing. I for one don’t like the cafeteria pizza.”

This comment further proves my point. The pizza needs to change.

MYSTERY OF THE WASTED TOILET TISSUE

Ms. McPhail’s class arrived at the cafeteria at 12:20 PM on Monday. Three girls from the class entered the bathroom by the cafeteria to wash their hands before eating lunch. To their shock and horror they noted that there was a lot of wasted toilet tissue all over the floor. I personally don’t think we should have this problem. It needs to end. ARE YOU THE TISSUE WASTER??????? WHAT’S NEXT A PAPER TOWEL WASTER?????!?!?!?!?!?!! THIS NEEDS TO END!!!!!

Ok, you are wondering why is this so not OK?
It’s not ok to waste paper because we are wasting trees when we waste paper. We need trees to live because trees give us oxygen.  PLEASE STOP WASTING PAPER TOWELS AND TISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Teachers help us learn. They help us to graduate our elementary schools. Teachers are good at their jobs. Teachers are our hope. We know that we can trust them. Some teachers are strict but they still love to help us. Some teachers know many things, like Ms. McPhail. Kids are lucky that they have such great teachers at E.K. Powe.
